Zeiss Super Nettel

Super Nettel-002

The Zeiss Super Nettel was launched in 1934 as a simplified fixed lens equivalent of the Contax I.

The camera had a coupled "rotating wedge" rangefinder system that was separate to the cameras view finder and was housed within the cameras lens bay, whilst the viewfinder was situated on top of the camera.

The camera utilised the same focal plane shutter system as the Contax line and due to the bellows system and the folding front the camera was an incredibly compact unit, although deceptively heavy for its size.

By modern standards the Super Nettel is quirky to use to say the least, but it does, with care and attention, deliver photos of the quality you would expect from a Zeiss engineered product.

discontinued in 1937 the Super Nettel was a short lived, but none the less fine example of a pre war camera; whose design was considered cutting edge, and is still a talking point and head turner when used today. You can learn more about the relatively short history of the Super Nettel via the fantastic Pacific Rim Camera site.
