Zeiss Ikoflex I

Ikoflex-001

The Zeiss Ikoflex I (850/16) to give it its full, not particularly catchy name was produced circa 1939 and was rather confusingly the replacement to the Ikoflex II.

Zeiss had been producing TLR (Twin Lens Reflex) cameras for some years by the introduction on the Ikoflex I, and we own and use several of them.

This particular model is fitted with the superior Tessar 75mm f3.5 lens as opposed to the standard Novar optic.

In an attempt to compete against Rollei's production of the Rolleiflex and Rolleicord, Zeiss had begun to introduce additional items to add to the versatility of the Ikoflex range.

Include in the picture we see the close up lens for portraits, and the eye level prism finder, both of which increase the ability of this already versatile camera.

The camera is capable of producing fine images in both colour as well as  black and white. the colour images render particularly well with the Tessar optic and have a lovely aged feel straight out of the camera.
