Edixa Mat Reflex

Edixa-001

The Edixa brand was produced by the long established Wirgin Kamerawerk and where manufactured from their factories in Wiesbaden, West Germany.

Very popular in the 50's and 60's as many people still associated German built cameras with quality. And as many factories where now under russian control in East Germany, many companies had to rebuild new factories and designs from scratch where as the Edixa brand made it into UK sales relatively quickly.

We own several models of Edixa Mat Reflex cameras, one of the latter and more advanced ranges of cameras Edixa produced.

Our standard kit features and Edixa Mat Reflex S as a back up body and an Edixa Mat Reflex D-L (pictured) as the main body.

Dating from circa 1965, the Edixa used the popular M42 screw mount lens system and featured removable viewfinders, a self timer and in the case of the D-L a shutter speed from 9 seconds to 1/1000th of a second. A shutter speed range many modern cameras can not match.

As well as the waist level finder and prism finder we also use a Schacht Travmat (as seen in the picture) this was an additional viewfinder manufactured for use with the Edixa and Exa range of cameras that had a metering system within the prism enabling the user to have a very early form of TTL (Through The Lens) Metering, invaluable when using a wide range of lenses.

The Edixa kit we use is a complete system with lenses ranging from fish eye to moderate telephoto, all items are original to the period, as are all the matching accessories. The  entire system is housed in a Omnica leather attache case again dating from circa 1965.

The kit is a fine working example of some of the earliest ranges of semi professional 35mm SLR's that where beginning to steal market from rangefinders and press cameras for professional work in the 60's.

The camera and optics are well matched for both colour and black and white films and can produce exceptional results, as well as looking amazing when in use.

If you want to replicate a late 50's to late 60's shot, then this is the kit for you. We have a range of lenses and accessories we use all the time, but have a vast array of more specialist lenses and accessories in stock so we can make any of your artistic visions a reality with out compromising on retaining the originality of how the image was captured.
